TOPICS:
As a speaker, Abi works regularly with young people, schools, businesses and other organisations particularly on the subject of challenge and resilience.
Although talented, Abi was a late bloomer who didn’t quite reach the pinnacle of junior athletics.
In fact, it wasn’t until 2001 when she qualified her first senior international that she began to make significant steps to becoming a world class athlete, reaching the Athens Olympic 200m finals, being the first female sprinter to do so in 24 years and running the 2nd fastest time ever by a British athlete.
As a sports/motivational speaker, Abi talks about her trials and tribulations of filling her dream of becoming a World Class Athlete.
After reaching the Olympic final 2004, she under went three major operations and was unable to compete on the international stage for almost 6 years.
Her story illustrates resilience, her hunger to achieve, ability to cope with setbacks and make an unbelievable comeback to regain her status of Britain’s number 1 sprinter over 100m & 200m for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Away from the track, Abi graduated from Brunel University with a BSc in Politics and has an MA in Human Rights and Social Rights from City University, London. Since retiring Abi has also ventured into the world of health and well-being; launching a natural cosmetics brand, which has garnered a cult following and is stocked in Liberty London, Anthropologist and Independent stores throughout the UK.
Her retirement from athletics came after participating in London 2012, but this did not diminish her drive to compete and pursue success.
Since retirement she’s gone on to take up new and exciting challenges/adventures, her most recent being the prestigious Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on board the Great Britain boat as part of the crew on the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race.
Abi was really great in interacting with the young people and it seemed the young people really engaged with her as well
