Lisa Whiteside is a British boxer, who has won international championship medals across three weight categories, including two World Championship medals.

Lisa first walked into a Boxing Club about 5 years ago after training in Thai boxing previously, however she felt she needed a new challenge and has never looked back. Boxing has become an integral part of her life, combining it with her career as a Police Officer.

Lisa’s goal for the Worlds was to bring a medal back for her dad and that’s exactly what she did, fighting all the way to become a World Bronze Medallist. Coming home and seeing the pride on her parents’ faces was unforgettable. It has been extremely challenging dealing with an extremely demanding job, working shifts whilst training to improve on her boxing, however due to her love for the sport Lisa has worked hard to fit training around her shifts.

Lisa lost her first ever boxing bout but this spurred her on to want to be involved in the sport even more and within 5 years Lisa has won 4 National Amateur boxing titles. This led to selection for England at international level, a huge honour.

In October 2011 Lisa travelled with the GB team to compete in the European Championships having never had a single international contest and she competed against females who had 100+ international contests. It was a very nervous but exciting time and she made it all the way through to the final, only losing the Gold medal by a single point.

This success led to selection for the World Championships in China which was an amazing experience, however just before going out to China Lisa received terrible family news. It was a very difficult choice to go to China but she knew her family wanted her to go as they are so proud of her boxing ability.

Lisa believes it is important to give back to the local community and when possible she attends local boxing shows to inspire boxers and present prizes as well as visit schools and help out coaching at the local boxing club.

Lisa firmly believes she can overcome any obstacle in the way of her dream and it will become reality. Believe in yourself and chase that dream.

Lisa was brilliant with the young people, showing them her medals and talking about the places she has been with her sport and the young people were asking her lots of questions about training and about where she has been.

Lisa's impact provided such a positive and motivational atmosphere among participants. The knowledge and experience she shared will certainly aspire others to achieve.
